ABOUT THE ARTIST

My artwork is primarily created in Sonoma County, CA and inspired by nature. While painting I get in touch with what attracted me to the subject matter. I bring myself into the moment to the sumptuous, rich paints, my canvas and brushes. That's when it's the best. Sometimes a painting comes together gracefully and quickly. Other times a painting will take a long time and a lot of patience. In times of frustration remembering why I paint gets me back on track and really with the painting.

My medium is acrylic and I paint in my studio by myself or in a neighbor's studio. I enjoy the fun and feedback of other artists. I am an active member of the art community and also a member of renowned artist Carole Watenabe's Art Heaven in Sebastopol, CA. We are 12 acrylic painters who have painted together since 2001. I also enjoy painting outdoors and continue taking art classes.

Painting and the environment have been a passion for many years. 2001 was the year I conceived and curated "Moved by the Land", an environmental art exhibit that lasted three years. Working with the community I brought together over 125 artists and several environmental organizations. I had the opportunity to organize the receptions which included politicians, performing artists, speakers, the community and numerous media. This venture came together gracefully, it was really meant to be.

I believe in the power of art not only to bring together artists and the community to better solve issues and raise awareness but also as a healing tool. As an art docent and art teacher's assistant I have seen first hand the calming effects an art class can have on a hormone racing bunch of adolescents, or a troubled youth. I have watched very young eyes sparkle and minds light up with wondrous ideas while creating a piece of art. The simple act of making art can bring a life into balance.

I love seeing my artwork find good homes especially when someone feels it is adding to their life. My goal is to continue nurturing myself and others with art.
